Patrik ang Göran could despite problems
secure the second place over all in the P-WRC
Championship. Their goal for this year was to
win the Championship and they started off really
well with wins in the first two rounds in Sweden
and Jordan. Later in the season they took their
third win in Japan. But when they came to Finland
their luck turned they had a secure second place
in the rally when the gearbox gave up and they
had to watch Armindo Arajuo secure important points
in the championship.
When they came to Wales and Rally GB they needed
to win and Armindo had to finsh not better than
seventh if Patrik and Göran would be able
to get the title.
-" It was close but we didn´t have
the luck on our side, but it has been fantastic
to drive here in GB. We started in a new Subaru
and it has really worked well" says Patrik
" it is just a shame that we could not win
as planned. But the last day we went out with
the mindset of winning stages and we won them
all" Patrik laughs " and a second place
in the world Championship is not so bad either".
Both Patrik and Göran is pleased with the
season as a whole.
- "Looking at the whole season I am really
pleased. When everything works we have really
showed that we are among the best in the class"
says Patrik " It was rally Finland that destroyed
our dream of becoming the Champion this year,
But despite that it has been a great season and
we have had great fun".
-"We came second and I am really happy about
that" Göran fills in.
Summary of Rally GB
Patrik and Göran started the rally dominating
P-WRC. It looked like they were going for a big
win and before the start on the last stage on
friday they had a lead with 1:17 minutes. But
on that last stage they lost the lead.
-" 10 meters into the stage their was a small
rock, we went over it and boom a steering rod
broke. That should not happen but my guess is
that we had hit it earlier during the day because
the roads were really ruff. We had to drive really
slow and lost a lot of time." says Patrik
They lost two minutes and went down to fourth
place. Patrik was hopeful.
-"We will take it back tomorrow" he
sad.
During Saturday they won five out of seven stages
and was getting closer to the top.
-" After service we changed some setting
and could really push with full speed" says
Patrik
They were second before stage 14 with only 23
seconds up to the leader Ott Tänak but during
the stage they got a flat tire 5 kilometre from
the goal.
-" That did not slow us down much but 400
meter before the finish line the spring strut
broke due to the flat tire. We had to retire and
restart according to the super rally rules"
says Patrik
When Patrik and Göran started over on Sunday
the goal was to secure the second place overall
in the Championship they were 9 and a half minute
behind the leader and on a seventh place.
They went out and won four out of four stages.
The rally consisted of 20 stages and Patrik and
Goran won in total 16.
